"Waxing vs. Shaving: Get Longer-Lasting Smooth Skin with Fewer Ingrown Hairs"

Are you over the constant shaving cycle, and debating scheduling a waxing appointment?

I understand, I have been there. Let’s talk about how both options to see if waxing is a great option for you! With shaving you are chopping the hairs off the top of your skin, so your hair is still in the active growth part of the hair cycle. So, it’s not going to take long for the hair to grow back up through your skin. The razor pulls on the hair follicle, this causes irritation and redirect the hair growth which causes itchiness and hairs to become ingrown under the skin. More sensitive areas of your body, like your bikini line are more prone to being irritated. Using a fresh razor, keeping skin exfoliated and hydrated, not shaving on dry skin can help.

So, with waxing, the wax pulls the hair directly out of the follicle, forcing it to have to start the growth process over. This could take anywhere from 3-4 weeks for hair to grow back. With consistent waxing visits, you will notice less hair growth between visits. Ingrown hairs can still occur with waxing, with the hair growing back finer, it could have issues pushing through the skin, however with regular exfoliation and use of an ingrown serum will help prevent them. So, now the reason most people are afraid to start waxing, the discomfort level. Truth is, yes it can be uncomfortable, especially your first waxing session. But it is not constant, its only in the moment when the wax is being removed from the skin with the hair, then it’s done. Usually, the anticipation is worse than the actual experience. I hear all the time from new clients that the experience was way better than what they built up in their mind.

I recommend clients that want to keep up with waxing, should schedule every 4-6 weeks. During that time, you do not have to do anything but keep up with exfoliating and apply ingrown serum, so you can toss the razor. If life happens and you need to take a break from waxing, it’s okay, as long as you understand you will be essentially starting over when you shave in between. If you are local to the toledo area, I would love to be your first waxing experience! Make sure you have stopped shaving for about 2 weeks, and your hair length is about 1/4 inch long.
